The Seventh Anniversary of the Father of Kashmir

Political Leaders of Pakistan and Kashmir gathered to pay tribute to the father of Kashmir, Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, in Islamabad.
Senator Raja Zafar-ul-haq (PML-N), Sardar Khalid Ibrahim Khan (JKPP), Raja Farooq Haider (Former PM AJK), Shah Ghulam Qadir (Speaker AJK Legislative Assembly), Amanullah Khan (Chairman JKLF), Shaukat Shah (Former Minister AJK), Ghulam Sadiq (Member of Kashmir Council, Peoples Party AJK), K.B. Khan (Former MLA) and other notable personalities prayed and shared their thoughts about the Father of Kashmir.
Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan was born on April 10, 1915 in Horna Mirah, a village of District Poonch of Kashmir. He obtained his LLB from the University of London in 1943, and began his practice as a prosecutor in 1943 at Mirpur. He did his BVC from Lincoln's Inn and became the first Barrister of Kashmir. He was appointed as assistant advocate general in 1944 by the Maharaja of Kashmir. He left the government job in line with the liberation of Kashmir movement and contested the 1946 election with sweeping victory that made him the Member of Rajiha Sabha.
Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan led an army of Kashmiri Freedom Fighters against the Maharaja of Kashmir, after passing the resolution for Kashmir's accession to Pakistan in 1947. Amanullah Khan recalls those days as the fiercest days for Kashmiri Nation. Amanullah Khan honored and admired the bravery and valor of Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan by citing an incident of his childhood,
“... I remember that I was going towards my home when I saw a policeman of Maharaja’s government. Their Red Turbans were a symbol of terror and fear for the innocent citizens of Kashmir. I was so frightened to see the red turban that I jumped and hide myself in the paddy field…..Sardar Ibrahim Khan retaliated against the Maharaja of Kashmir in those violent days…”
K.B.Khan while sharing his thoughts said that, “…retaliation was a deadly risk. Had it been unsuccessful, Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim khan would have faced death penalty…”
Senator Raja Zafar-Ul-Haq also honored the work and life of the Father of Kashmir. He stated that:
“Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan was an honorable, brave and an honest man. His principles and foresight helped Kashmir as well as Pakistan….I believe that by following the rules, principles and guidelines provided by Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan Sahib, we can achieve prosperity"
Regarding the political situation of Kashmir, Raja Zafar-ul-Haq said that:
“….I realize that Sardar sahib is no longer among us, but I see his principles, his political vision and his foresight in Sardar Khalid Ibrahim Khan and I see Raja Haider Khan's viewpoint in Raja Farooq Haider…”
Raja Farooq Haider Khan, Shah Ghulam Qadir, Ghulam Sadiq, Shaukat Shah and other notable personalities paid tribute to Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan.
At the end of the ceremony, Raja Zafar-ul-Haq requested Sardar Khalid Ibrahim Khan to come up on stage and share his thoughts with the gathering. Sardar Khalid Ibrahim Khan thanked everyone and expressed his feelings and views on the occasion.
The ceremony ended with everyone praying for the Father of Kashmir, Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, who, at the age of 32, retaliated against the Maharaja of Kashmir and became the voice of millions of people.

Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan (April 10, 1915 – July 31, 2003) also known as Bani-e-Kashmir "Father of Kashmir" and Ghazi-e-Millat, is the founder of Azad Kashmir. Born in Horna Mirah, a village of District Poonch of Kashmir, Sardar Ibrahim obtained his LLB from the University of London in 1943, and began his practice as a prosecutor in 1943 at Mirpur. He completed his BVC from Lincoln's Inn and became the first Barrister of Kashmir. He was appointed as assistant advocate general in 1944 by the then Maharaja of Kashmir. He left the government job in line with the liberation of Kashmir movement, and contested the 1946 elections with sweeping victory that made him the Member of Rajiha Sabha. He led an army of Kashmiri guerrillas against the Maharaja of Kashmir, Hari Singh, after passing the resolution for Kashmir's accession to Pakistan in 1947, at his residence. Sardar and his army were unable to capture the whole Kashmiri Territory due to the resolution passed by United Nations on August 13, 1948. However, the captured area was named as Azad Kashmir and Khan was elected as its first President at the age of 32. He represented Kashmir in different capacities in the United Nations from 1948 to 1971.
